Makeup Revolution Liquid Highlighter – Unicorn Elixir

If you don’t know me by now, I am a slight highlighter addict. Anything shiny I’m instantly drawn to like a magpie, that’s exactly what James calls me. Every time we’re out and about and I see a new highlighter I don’t own or a piece of sparkly jewellery that practically glistens in the sun I’m all over it like a rash. So when I seen that Makeup Revolution had a liquid highlighter called Unicorn Elixir it somehow fell into my basket.

I’d never tried a liquid highlighter before. Slightly surprised I hadn’t due to my “slight” addiction to being shiny. So I was pretty intrigued to see if this would work at all. I’d heard a load of hype over the Cover FX liquid highlighters but they are totally out of my price range so to find a cheaper alternative is always a huge bonus.

So the packaging is absolutely beautiful and the main reason I bought this. With the holographic theme with rose gold rim of the lid its instantly attractive, total unicorn vibes. The bottle holds 18ml of product and has a screw off lid with a dropper applicator. The bottle is plastic fantastic so if you’re clumsy like me and accidently drop EVERYTHING there’s no glass to clean up here.

I popped a couple of drops onto the top of my cheeks on top of my foundation and used a beauty blender to blend it in. Almost instantly I knew this was going to be a terrible product. It just wouldn’t spread the product evenly. It bunched up in places, flaked off my skin after a couple of minutes and genuinely looked horrible. So I then tried under my foundation. Didn’t work either. Both times it felt gritty as well, like there was hard glitter in the liquid and just didn’t feel nice. Also when it dried down it actually hurt to move my cheeks, it felt like I’d applied superglue to my face in a way! It didn’t give the glow I was looking for due to its consistency.

As you can see in the photo above its quite patchy. All in all this is a terrible product and I would not recommend. This is the first product from Makeup Revolution I haven’t actually liked and I’m slightly shocked. I usually love everything I’ve tried but this was just a complete waste of money for me. However I’ve heard some of their other shades are a lot nicer so I’m thinking of picking up one of them instead.

Have you tried the Unicorn Elixir Liquid Highlighter before? Let me know your thoughts.

Until next time,

It’s such a shame as I really wanted to like this liquid highlighter but it just isn’t worth the money at all.

Gutted is an understatement of how I feel about this highlighter 🙁 as Makeup Revolution are my favourite drugstore brand and I literally love everything else I’ve ever tried.
Thank you so much, that means the world to me!

I was torn between these and the Barrym liquid chrome drops, so glad i avoided this one!! The BarryM one is so worth the money and such a good product. The colour of this product is so gorgeous though x

I must try the Barry M ones as I do want to find myself a decent cheap liquid highlighter plus I’ve heard quite a few people rave about them lately!

Oh no! I’ve got two shades (champagne and luna) and both are brilliant. They apply really well both under and over foundation. I was eyeing this up but I wonder if the more sparkly colour shade has had an impact on the formula? To be honest it’s the shade I would use the least day to day so probably a good one to avoid, but interesting it seems to be patchy etc!

I think it must be a different type of formula as I’ve heard such great things about the other shades so defo need to give them a try.
