I’ve been a proper skincare addict recently. My skin hasn’t exactly been in the best condition at all. So I’ve been trying all these different skincare products to try and tackle the situation head-on. One brand I wanted to explore more though was Mario Badescu. I’d heard so many people, especially in the blogging community, rave about their products. So I had to give them a try myself. Recently in my Beauty Bay Haul, I picked up the 50th Anniversary Edition Set which contained 5 products for £32.00, including the famous Drying Lotion. So I’ve been putting some products to the test and picked out my top 5. So if you’re loving Mario Badescu skin care, then check out my favourites!
Mario Badescu Skin Care
If you’re not aware of Mario Badescu, they are a skincare brand based over in New York, US. They have been trading now for over 50 years. He started his vision from his 2 bedroom Manhattan apartment, where the skin care brand was born. Now it’s such a popular skin care brand, well known throughout many places across the world. They have such a wide range of products available for any skin concerns.
Mario Badescu Acne Facial Cleanser | £14.00
I haven’t seen anything about this particular cleanser anywhere so had to try it out. As I’ve already mentioned, I’m having a lot of problems with my skin. My breakouts are bad and I was struggling to keep them under control. This Acne Facial Cleanser is formulated with Salicylic Acid to help deep clean the skin. While the blends of the botanical extracts like Aloe, Chamomile and Thyme help improve the look of troubled skin without stripping it from moisture.
Possibly my favourite cleanser ever. Purely due to the wonders it has done for my skin. My breakouts are nowhere near as bad as they once were. I talked about it a bit in my August Favourites. As I mentioned over on that post, this cleanser is designed more for people with oily skin but I still decided to give it a try. It only dries out my dry skin a little bit but not to the point where it’s uncomfortable. A little bit of moisturiser and its back to normal again. I highly recommend this cleanser to anyone who suffers from breakouts like myself.
Mario Badescu Enzyme Cleansing Gel | £13.00
Apparently, a much-loved cleanser so obviously had to give this a wee try too. Its a gel cleanser that’s supposed to cleanse, brighten and exfoliate, something my skin most definitely needs. The Enzyme Cleanser features fruit enzymes and alpha hydroxy acids (naturally found in Papaya and Grapefruit extracts) which are designed to help dissolve away makeup, excess oil and impurities. Basically designed to help leave your skin feeling healthy and rejuvenated. I was really excited to dive into this and test it out on my skin.
I wouldn’t recommend this as a cleanser to remove makeup. Even though it says on the packaging it can be used for this, it barely works because it’s so light. So I’ve been using this as a second cleanser instead. Although I don’t tend to use a cleanser to remove my makeup, I wanted to give this a thorough try. I still had A LOT of makeup remaining on my face which is a shame. Which is why I switched it up. After a couple of days of using this after the Acne Cleanser, I noticed how glowy my skin looked. I’m not even entirely sure this is designed to do that, maybe its just a coincidence. But it feels refreshing on the skin and leaves my face feeling extra clean.
Mario Badescu Drying Lotion | £16.00
I bought this on the recommendation of others. I’ve seen so many people rave about this Drying Lotion. Apparently, it’s the holy grail to help eliminate spots. So I’ve been putting it to the test. I’ve had some pretty aggressive spots recently, you know the ones which might as well have their own postcode. The ones that are red, full of puss and painful to touch. So I’ve needed that miracle saviour.
I’ve been using a cotton bud to get the mixture down the bottom then applying it to my spots then sleeping it off. You know what? I’m really liking this. It’s perfect to help eliminate those under the skin spots. The ones that haven’t quite poked out to say HELLO yet. But one thing I have noticed is it’s not so effective on those on the surface spots. The ones with the huge whiteheads. It reduces the redness around the spot and stops it from hurting. But for the whitehead itself, it was always still there. The only issue I have with this is the smell. Wow, it’s strong! So strong I can almost taste it. The downfall of this product in my opinion.
Mario Badescu Flower & Tonic Mask | £18.50
In the 50th Aniversary Essentials Kit, this little sample of the Flower & Tonic Mask was included. I was excited to give this a try as I adore face masks, they make a perfect addition to any pamper session. This is a deep cleansing mask, using natural minerals like Kaolin and Zinc Oxide to purify and balance the complexion. It also contains antioxidant-rich Evening Primrose and Gardenia Extracts which are designed to help improve moisture retention, leaving behind firmer and softer skin.
I only needed to apply a small amount to the face. It has a thick consistency yet doesn’t feel heavy on the face during the 20 minutes it recommends. It dried down quickly so no transfer onto my fingers when I accidentally touched my face. I stupidly do that a lot as I forget I’m wearing one. When it came to washing it off, after the first use I was amazed at how soft my face felt! Even though on the Mario Badescu website it says this face mask is designed for combination, oily and sensitive skin, it didn’t aggravate my dry skin. It’s now a regular choice when it comes to picking a face mask. So much so my sample tub is almost finished! Definitely picking up a full-size one soon.
Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Cucumber and Green Tea | £7.00
The absolute winner for me. I adore this facial spray for everything. From setting my makeup to just using it as a facial mist, it’s so multipurpose. Even though I love the Rosewater one (which I also own), out of the 2 this one comes on top. It’s perfect to calm down irritated skin before applying makeup as well. As loads of people are probably well aware by now, I have dry skin. During winter I know it’s only going to get a lot worse. I’ve noticed a change in my skin already due to the drop in temperature we’ve had, I swear it hasn’t gone past 10 degrees. A little spritz of this and my face feels instantly hydrated again. This now comes everywhere with me, especially to work where my skin feels dry the most from the dry heat.
I definitely want to explore more of their skincare range. I’m really liking these 5 products so far and got my eye on a couple more, like the Facial Spray with Aloe, Chamomile and Lavender to complete my facial spray set.
